چکیده
Neurohumoral and psychosomatic factors are now generally regarded as playing an important role in human gastroduodenal ulcer. If these factors are associated with the pathogenesis and recurrence of the ulcer, consideration should be given to a neuro-endocrine mechanism, operating perhaps through the hypothalamus and the pituitary, and the adrenal gland. Many investigators (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) have described hemorrhages, erosions and ulcers in the stomach and proximal duodenum following experimental irritation or damage to the hypothalamus. But, these lesions are always of an acute type devoid of chronic features. Cushing (7) was the first to notice the erosions and acute perforations of the stomach after operation on brain tumors. According to him, intracranial lesions that affect the hypothalamus, particularly the tuber cinereum, or the conduction pathways leading from the hypothalamus to the efferent nucleus of the vagus are prone to cause gastric ulcers presumably due to parasympathetic stimulation, probably due to sympathetic paralysis. On the contrary, Keller's work (6) indicates that after bilateral vagotomy the placing of a lesion in the brain-stem is followed by focal hemorrhages in the stomach, identical in all respects with those observed following brain-stem lesions with the vagi intact. Then, if Keller's work can be confirmed, there could be no boubt that interruption of the vagal route leaves open a

Spinal and supraspinal analgesic effects of Nimodipine : The role of Hypothalamo-Pituitary-Adrenal(HPA) axis .
Nimodipine, an L-type calcium channel blocker, can induce analgesia. However, it is not clear that this analgesic effect is at the level of spinal or supraspinal pain pathway. In addition, it has been reported that the analgesic effect of nifedipine, another L-type calcium channel blocker is related to the HPA axis, but there is no report indicating the role of this axis in the analgesic eff...
متن کاملبررسی وجود انحراف طرفی ساقه غده هیپوفیز نرمال در افراد بالغ توسط MRI
Background & Aim: Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in the coronal plane before and after contrast is currently considered to be the most specific and sensitive technique for imaging pituitary gland. However, because of the false negative results of this method in the detection of pituitary microadenomas and the importance of finding these microadenomas, infundibular deviation or tilt in MRI ...
متن کاملEffects of Noise Exposure on the Volume of Adrenal Gland and Serum Levels of Cortisol in Rat
Background: Noise pollution is considered as a stressful factor in every day’s life of the industrial world. The present study was designed to investigate the probable effects of different time exposure of noise stress on histomorphometric changes of adrenal gland, plasma cortisol and body weight of the rat. Methods: Sixty adult male Wistar rats were divided into two series of short time noise ...
متن کاملEffects of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes on Micro-Anatomical Changes of Adrenal Gland in Male Wistar Rats
Background & Aims: Changing the hormonal output of endocrine glands, diabetes leads to the occurrence of secondary metabolic disorders. Neuropathy, on the other hand, is the most common neurological complication of diabetes which affects the neuroendocrine system, in addition to peripheral and autonomic nervous system, contributing to exacerbation of disease severity. In this line, the present ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the relation between the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity, IL-6 and hyperalgesia during chronic inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in male rats.
Introduction: The activity of Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis is increased following inflammation due to its closed relation with immune system. This axis indicates an increased secretion of ACTH, and corticosterone during acute inflammation while little is known about its activity during chronic inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study we measured the products...
